JANUARY 2008

January 9th, 2008

Hi all,

* Exciting news: expecting to announce a DVD distribution deal for YEAH NO DEFINITELY in the next month or so! Looks like it’s going to be part of a compilation series - more info to come.

* Fall 2007 saw many premieres and screenings, as YEAH NO DEFINITELY was selected for festivals including LA Shorts, image + nation in Montreal, Ojai Film Festival, Reel Affirmations in Washington DC, and New Filmmakers in New York City. The Montreal fest was particularly incredible, with our film screening in the city’s finest cinema to an enthusiastic crowd. And the packed Manhattan screening gave many members of the cast and crew their first chance to see the film and an opportunity to celebrate our accomplishment together with family and friends.

* Currently I’m working hard on a short film screenplay for SHOUT: The HBO GLBT Short Film Competition, open only to select filmmakers whose movies have screened at Outfest and a couple other festivals. Three winning directors will receive $15K each to make their next short. I’m also revising a script for a feature-length version of YEAH NO DEFINITELY and writing a screenplay for a new feature. And this past fall saw my network producer/director debut with a news special about diabetes for NBC called DIABETES: THE QUIET KILLER.

* Vincent Piazza, star of YEAH NO DEFINITELY, has been cast in the upcoming NBC series BLUE BLOOD, helmed by Brett Ratner (X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, RUSH HOUR).

* Director of Photography Chris Teague has shot two short films screening at Sundance this year: MAN and THE SECOND LINE.

* Editor Paul Snyder has recently cut videos for Chamillionaire’s song “Ultimate Victory,” and J. Holiday’s “Bed,” a top-ten vid on MTV’s TRL.

* Rocker Andee Hinds, whose song “Black Day, Techno Nights” opens YEAH NO DEFINITELY, is burning up the college charts with his new band’s self-titled debut “Black Sugar Transmission.” Check it out at: www.myspace.com/blacksugartransmission

Happy New Year everyone!

SEPTEMBER 2007

September 11th, 2007

Hi everyone,

* YEAH NO DEFINITELY will have its New York premiere this month on Wednesday, September 26th in New York City as part of New Filmmakers, a series at the Anthology Film Archives (32 Second Avenue at Second Street) which showcases the best work from rising cinematic talent in NYC.

There will be a reception with beer and wine starting at 7:30PM, and the movie will begin at 9PM. The film is fifteen minutes long, and will be followed by a feature: Jesse Allen’s THE NEAREST FARAWAY PLACE, a black-comedy about a couple and their ‘third wheel’ friend who engage in the black-market industry of stealing pure-bred dogs in order to support their drug addictions. I haven’t seen the film so can make no promises about its quality or content: we’ll find out!

Tickets are $5 and the box office opens at 5:30PM (this event will likely sell out). Closest subway stops: 6 at Bleecker St; F at 2nd Ave. For those devil-may-care people who want to go out after the feature finishes, we’ll head over to the downstairs lounge at Three of Cups, a rocker bar at 83 1st Ave. and 5th St.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

* YEAH NO DEFINITELY will screen in Los Angeles on Thursday, September 13th at 10PM as part of LA Shorts Fest, the largest short film festival in the world, and one of the few where the films screened are eligible for an Oscar nomination.

It will screen in a short film program in theater #4 at :
AMC Burbank Town Center 6
770 N. First St.
Burbank , CA 91502
818-562-1401

AMC Burbank Town Center 6 is directly adjacent to a FREE multi-level parking garage. Self-parking entrances are off of N. 1 st St., N. San Fernando Blvd. and E. Cypress Ave.

* YEAH NO DEFINITELY has been admitted to the Ojai Film Festival, and will screen there at The Ojai Art Center, 311 S. Montgomery St., Ojai, CA, on Saturday, October 6th at 5:30 PM. Several films that have screened at Ojai have gone on to be nominated or win Academy Awards.

* YEAH NO DEFINITELY screened in August at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, considered by many to be the Sundance of short film festivals. It was a fantastic experience - the mountain landscapes around Palm Springs are spectacular, and the festival was positively packed with incredible narrative, animated and documentary films from all over the world.

AUGUST 2007

July 23rd, 2007

Tons of exciting news this month:

* YEAH NO DEFINITELY has been admitted to the 2007 Palm Springs Festival of Short Films, one of the most important short film festivals in the world. Here’s what the “Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide” has to say about it: “Palm Springs attracts festival programmer’s from all over the world seeking shorts, so there is no better place for exposure. For short filmmakers, this is their Sundance.”

* YEAH NO DEFINITELY screened last month at Outfest, the largest and oldest film festival in Los Angeles, and the largest lesbian and gay film festival in the United States. It was an incredible experience. Although there was an enormous party the night before the screening, 500 people packed the Director’s Guild of America Theatre for a screening of short films at 11AM on a Sunday! The audience response was extremely enthusiastic.

The program, titled “Straight Boys,” was extraordinary: the films were from Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia. With the exception of one 6-minute movie called ROCK POCKETS, ours was the only narrative short from the U.S. All of the movies were exceptionally good, the level of cinematography and acting and directing was just superb, and the juxtaposition of the films was truly thought-provoking. Keep your eyes open for 41 SEKUNDEN (sexy), FLATMATES (deeply touching), SHAHRAM AND ABBAS (one of the best movies I’ve seen recently - features included) and BRO & DUDE’S COOL AFTERNOON (a hilarious and obscene cartoon).

Later, there was a big party at a beautiful house overlooking Laurel Canyon, hosted by the producers of AMERICAN BEAUTY. Many people there approached me to say how much they enjoyed the film. I met many interesting and smart filmmakers at this party and several others, and was knocked out by the assembly of talent from all over the world.

Here’s a photo of writer Rick Andreoli, me, and actor Dave Monihan (L to R) after the screening:

* indieWIRE, the online bible of independent film, named YEAH NO DEFINITELY one of the 15 most outstanding short films at Outfest. Check it out here.

* YEAH NO DEFINITELY will be screening on Wednesday, September 26th at 9PM in New York City (finally!) as part of New Filmmakers, a series at the Anthology Film Archives (32 Second Avenue at Second Street) which showcases the best work from rising cinematic talent in NYC. Save the date!

* YEAH NO DEFINITELY has been admitted to the Los Angeles Shorts Fest, the world’s largest short film festival. Sixteen festival participants have gone on to earn Oscar nominations and three have won.

* Editor par excellence Paul Snyder has cut a trailer for the film (now on this site’s main page). It features music by The Jaguar Club - honest, passionate, original, memorable - this band has it all.

* www.yeahnodefinitely.com is up and running! A thousand thanks to Amy Cheng for all her hard work putting it together. Check here for all the latest news on the film and updates re: cast and crew.

* Vincent Piazza (Cam) has taped more episodes of the hit F/X series RESCUE ME. Another chance to see this wildly talented actor on the small screen.

* And the smart and tireless Nina Gielen has come on board Speed Films as production coordinator - God bless her!

Thank you to everyone for all your support!

-Dave
